Turn Left Adventures Featured in the Chicago Tribune for Wilderness First Responder Course at The Dunes --> Click HERE to read full article!

We were honored (and pretty stoked) when the Chicago Tribune reached out wanting to feature one of our Wilderness First Responder (WFR) courses—and they couldn’t have picked a better day to drop by.
Held at the beautiful Dunes Learning Center in Indiana, this five-day hands-on training was the capstone of our Hybrid WFR Course, which also includes 30+ hours of pre-course online learning. Students came in prepared with the knowledge, and during the in-person portion, they put it all into practice—eight hours a day of hands-on training in backcountry medicine, rescue logistics, and emergency response under pressure.
When the Tribune team showed up, they got a front-row seat to one of the most intense (and most fun) days of the course: Mass Casualty Simulation Day. This is when we bring it all together—multiple mock patients, chaotic scenes, evacuation challenges, and (if we’re lucky) a bit of unruly weather to add to the realism. It’s a high-stress, high-reward environment designed to test our students’ skills in a controlled but unpredictable setting.
The result? A powerful learning experience that pushes participants to think fast, work as a team, and care for others when it matters most.
Want to become a Wilderness First Responder? You don’t need prior experience—just a willingness to learn and a sense of adventure. Sign up for one of our upcoming courses and start your journey into backcountry medicine today.
